Digital ID: Why personal data protection is becoming increasingly important

od admin

Digital transformation is changing the way we access public services, healthcare systems, banking, and many other essential aspects of everyday life.

As digital services continue to expand, so does the need for secure, reliable, and privacy-respecting methods of identifying individuals.

Around the world and across the European Union, various approaches to digital identity are being developed. Increasing emphasis is being placed on principles such as personal data protection, cybersecurity, access traceability, and the prevention of identity misuse.

“The true value of digital identity is not measured by how much data it collects, but by how well it protects people.”
— Institute 1 April

At the Institute 1 April, we believe that the development of future identity systems must be centered on protecting individuals. For this reason, we have introduced the QEI (Qualified Electronic Identity) initiative, which presents a concept for a safer and more transparent digital identity.

The QEI initiative is based on several key principles:

  • protecting individual privacy,
  • voluntary participation in the system,
  • data separation to reduce security risks,
  • traceability of access to data,
  • the use of modern security approaches to protect digital identity.

The purpose of the initiative is not to replace existing solutions, but to encourage a professional discussion on how future generations of digital identity systems can better protect people’s rights while supporting efficient public services.

The digital identity of the future will not be built solely on technological progress, but above all on the trust of citizens. That trust can only be established through responsible governance, transparency, and respect for privacy.

The Institute 1 April will continue to monitor developments in the field of digital identity and contribute proposals and professional discussions that can help build a safer digital future.
